How to Find Your Purpose in Life and Start Living it

Finding your own purpose in life can be an exhausting, overwhelming, and confusing journey. One moment you may feel like you're meant to do this one thing, and the next you're feeling completely out of place and disoriented. In a world where so many opportunities are available, it can be easy to get lost along the way and go down a path that you think aligns with your purpose when it really doesn't. Other people's influence also plays a huge role when it comes to finding your purpose. They may think they know what's right for you when in reality the only one that can determine what's right for you is you.

Here are a few strategies you can implement in order to identify your purpose in life and start living it:

1. Define your True Objectives

In order to live a truly authentic and extraordinary life, you have to live your own life and not somebody else's. We often get caught up in other's opinions and live our lives how others want us to live. This then leads us to build our daily routine according to our families, friends, and society. Essentially, we become a product of society.

It takes a great deal of strength and will power to live your life according to your true priorities, especially when your priorities are different from those around you. Once you have the courage to build your life around what matters to you, you'll begin to live a life that's authentic to you and your days will become filled with a stronger sense of purpose and fulfillment.

Steer clear from false objectives. Don't let all the noise around you deviate you from your true purpose. False objectives are the goals you're working towards that don't align with what matters to you the most and the person you want to become.

A false objective for some people can be wanting to climb up the corporate ladder when they really rather spend more time at home with their kids and their family. Another example are those who spend their money on a large mortgage when they really wish more than anything to be free and travel the world.

In order to seek what truly fulfills you, it's important to closely evaluate your life, be 100% honest with yourself, and ask yourself these questions:

  • What matters to me?
  • What false objective am I working towards right now?

Once you've honestly answered these questions, eliminate those false objectives immediately. This will help you start with a clean slate and focus on what truly matters to you allowing you to create your own authentic, purpose-driven life.

2. Create a Clear Vision of your Desired Life

Once you define your true priorities, you can start developing a vision for the life your desire. In order to build your life around your priorities, write down everything you can think of about the life you desire. Then, work on believing in this desired life and that it's possible to achieve it. This can be a difficult obstacle to get through but it's crucial to achieving your ideal life.

If traveling the world is one of your biggest dreams in life and you deeply desire to create a flexible career which only requires a laptop and internet connection allowing you to work from anywhere in the world, then you'll need to believe this is possible. Once you start creating excuses and think that it's impossible to break free from your 9-5 job, you won't take those first step necessary to leave the office and live your desired life.

What you believe about yourself and what you believe is possible, 100% affects your future. Get real with yourself and the life you truly desire to live in this lifetime. Then, work towards believing this is possible to achieve and focus on the positives.

3. Build a Plan to Achieve your Vision

You can hope all you want that your desired life will just fall into place. However, this is not an effective strategy. You need a real plan with a detailed strategy that will lead you to your desired purpose. Give yourself deadlines, come up with a way to hold yourself accountable, and most importantly, create a plan unique to you that corresponds to your desired goal.

A highly effective strategy you can use in order to outline your plan is by using a SMART goal planner.

4. Face the Obstacles & Deal with Them Effectively

Life will always throw a few obstacles along the way and it's up to you whether you want to look at those obstacles as lessons or deterrents. These hurdles come in many forms including:

You're going to be hit on the daily with a number of things that are going to try to distract you from your true priorities and life purpose. However, these things don't determine whether you can achieve your life purpose or not. It's up to you to decide how bad you want it and how much work you're willing to do in order to overcome those obstacles that life throws your way. Run your own race, live your own life, focus on what matters to you, and build your dream life around your own unique vision.
